Six of eight agents charge 0% — so what does an agent actually cost you?

Fee tables make agents look interchangeable because most charge nothing visible. The margin sits in the exchange rate and the shipping quote instead — here is how to find it.

TL;DR

Six of the eight agents we could verify charge 0% on the order itself. That makes the fee column almost useless for choosing between them — the money is made on the shipping quote and the exchange rate instead. Sugargoo is the exception, charging on both service and payment, and it is the only one where the fee is worth calculating.

Compare fees on your basket

What "0% commission" is actually paying for

An agent with no service fee is not working for free. The margin has to come from somewhere, and there are three places it hides.

The exchange rate. You pay in dollars or euros, the seller is paid in yuan, and the agent picks the rate for that conversion. A spread of two or three percent against the mid-market rate is invisible on a receipt and larger than most service fees would have been. This is the main one.

The shipping quote. Agents resell freight they buy at contract rates. Two agents quoting the same line for the same box can differ by twenty or thirty percent, and nothing on either checkout page explains why.

Ancillary charges. Repacking, extra QC photos, insurance, storage past the free window. Individually small, collectively not.

What to do about it: price the identical parcel through two or three 0% agents and compare the shipping quote and the implied exchange rate, not the fee line. That is a fifteen-minute exercise that will tell you more than any comparison table, including this one.

The one agent where fees genuinely matter

Sugargoo charges roughly 5% service with a 10–15 CNY minimum, plus 4.8% and $0.50 on payment. It is the only agent in this table charging on both sides, and on a $300 basket that combination lands around $30 — real money against six competitors charging nothing visible.

That does not automatically make it the wrong choice. An agent with a transparent fee and a keen shipping rate can beat a 0% agent with a padded one. But it does mean Sugargoo is the one case where you should run the number rather than assume.

Ratings, and how much weight to give them

Trustpilot scores are third-party data, not our scoring, and the review count matters as much as the number.

AgentScoreReviewsRead it as
MuleBuy4.7 / 52,813Highest score here on a solid sample
Joyagoo4.6 / 52,900Comparable, similar volume
CNFans4.2 / 513,300Much the deepest sample here — 17× Oopbuy, on the identical score
Oopbuy4.2 / 5797Same score, thinner evidence
AllChinaBuy4.1 / 5215Small sample, treat as provisional
HooBuy3.9 / 5560Middling
Sugargoo3.4 / 5630Below average, and the only one charging on both sides
KakoBuy2.5 / 574Lowest score on the thinnest sample — 74 reviews is not enough to conclude much either way

The CNFans versus MuleBuy comparison used to be the interesting one here. MuleBuy scores half a point higher, but CNFans has been rated by more than four times as many buyers, and a 4.2 across 13,300 reviews is a better-evidenced result than a 4.7 across 2,813.

It is also the comparison that gets misreported most, because CNFans ended its affiliate programme in January 2026 and a great deal of what was published about it immediately afterwards came from people who had just stopped being paid by it. The rating above is unaffected by any of that, which is rather the point of using third-party data: 13,300 buyers are harder to move than a page of opinion.

KakoBuy deserves a caveat in the other direction. A 2.5 is poor, but 74 reviews is a small enough sample that a handful of bad shipping months could produce it. It also offers the longest free storage window here at 100 days.

Free storage, and why it is worth checking

Storage windows run from 90 days across most of the field to 100 at KakoBuy and Sugargoo, with CNFans tightest at 60. If you buy across several weeks and ship once, this is a real constraint rather than a footnote — running past the window means either paying storage or shipping earlier than you wanted.

Oopbuy is the one to verify personally. It advertises no service fee, but its storage terms are not published on a page we could reach, so confirm before you park a haul there.

The agents we could not verify

Superbuy, ACBuy, Basetao, CSSBuy, OrientDig, LoveGoBuy, HipoBuy, iTaoBuy, EastMallBuy and USFans are all supported by the link converter, but were not covered by the comparison we sourced. Rather than invent a percentage for them, they are left out of the calculator. Check the rate at their own checkout.

What buyers ask us about this

Which Taobao agent is genuinely cheapest?

There is no single answer on fees, because six of the eight agents with verified rates charge 0% on the order itself. Sugargoo is the exception at roughly 5% service plus 4.8% and $0.50 on payment, near $30 on a $300 basket. Landed cost then ranks differently per parcel, since freight and a 2–3% exchange spread dominate. Price your actual basket at two or three before committing.

How do 0% agents make money?

On the exchange rate and the freight quote. The spread applied when your dollars or euros become yuan runs 2–3% against the mid-market rate, which is invisible on a receipt and larger than most service fees would have been. Resold shipping carries a markup on top of that, and repacking, extra photographs, insurance and storage past the free window fill in the remainder.

Is Sugargoo worth paying fees for?

Occasionally. Its 5% service charge, with a 10–15 CNY minimum, plus 4.8% and $0.50 on payment lands near $30 on a $300 basket — real money against six competitors charging nothing visible. It holds parcels 100 days free, matching KakoBuy, and sits at 3.4 on Trustpilot from 630 reviews. Whether it wins depends on its shipping quote for your parcel.

Should KakoBuy's 2.5 rating put me off?

It is a fair warning, though 74 reviews is a thin enough sample that one bad shipping quarter could produce it — compare CNFans, whose 4.2 rests on 13,300. KakoBuy publishes no rate card at all, and it holds parcels 100 days free, the longest here alongside Sugargoo. It is also the only agent paying this site a commission, which is on the disclosure page. Start small.

Why isn't Superbuy in the calculator?

Because no rate we trust could be verified for it, and inventing a percentage would be worse than leaving a gap. Superbuy sits with CSSBuy, Basetao and ACBuy in that position — ten of the forty agents in the link converter carry no fee figure here for the same reason. All of them still convert normally, so check the rate at their own checkout before paying.

Anything in these albums, at wholesale — including one unit

We work directly with the factory network behind the 30 catalogues on this site. You do not need to reach a minimum to get factory pricing: a single pair comes at the same rate, and larger orders come down from there. Sourcing, QC photographs, consolidation and shipping are handled end to end, so there is one conversation rather than five.

  • Single units at wholesale — no minimum order to qualify
  • Volume pricing — the rate drops as the order grows
  • End to end — sourcing, QC video and photos, consolidation, freight
  • Answered by people — usually within a few hours, UTC+8 business hours
